Nowadays, research in the field of biology with special reference to virology, cancer biology, genetics, molecular biology, pharmacology and biotechnology depends on information technology entirely from experimentation to the publication of the results in a very integrated manner. Up to date detailed public databases of DNA sequences and protein sequences, macromolecular structure, cell signaling, pathway organization and biological network analysis, have been established to optimize scientific exploitation of the explosion of data within biology. Indian Institute of Human and Social Sciences directs its research chiefly towards topics related to the illumination of the functional view of complex biological mechanisms of human life in terms of bio-molecular level.
Since its inception, Indian Institute of Human and Social Sciences (IIHSS) has identified itself both as institute for academic excellence and service institution. As a service institution, IIHSS has a vision of just, humane, and equitable society where the underprivileged (poor and oppressed) assume their rightful place. Presently IIHSS with its partner organizations conducted different social service works viz., health awareness drives with special reference to mental health, relief work to different places of Burdwan, Purulia and Bankura districts and medical assistance to needful peoples.
